An opportunity is “a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something.”
We’re always looking for more opportunities for our Innovation Women members — this week we added four NEW open calls for speakers and presenters. There are now an even dozen in this week’s newsletter! These opportunities are in a variety of locations and cover in an even wider variety of industries and categories. We also added two opportunities in Boston to pitch or showcase your innovative or revolutionary new product.
Often, just to know about opportunities is enough. Once you know an opportunity exists, you can jump in to secure the engagement, apply for the role, or get your network working on your behalf. If you are like most women, you don’t expect preferential treatment, you just want the same opportunity as everyone else.
It’s the opportunities you never get that irk the most – the job, promotion, board position or speaking engagement that gets filled before we ever knew it existed. We all know the adage, “It’s not what you know, but whom.” Your circle of contacts and friends can really make a difference on hearing about great opportunities.
The Three Rules of Opportunity:
- The larger your network, the more opportunities you will have.
- The more (energy, opportunities for others, time) you put into your network, the more opportunities you will have.
- The more familiar your network is with your skills AND needs, the more likely they are to share appropriate opportunities with you.
P.S. Boston ladies, help us bring “Code: Debugging the Gender Gap” to our area. Interested in booking this important documentary in your area? Get in touch with the team.
